Share with us a little about yourself and what you do. My name is Chaylin Wong, I am 21 years old, and am a senior at UH West Oahu majoring in Creative Media. I am a dance instructor at Na Maka O Puuwai Aloha. The work that I do is important to me because dance is a passion that I have. It helps me physically, emotionally, and mentally. It’s an activity that keeps me grounded.

Why is the work that you do important to you? The community? I believe it is important to the community because I am able to share this passion with the kids that I teach. I am able to prove a safe, fun, and creative space for them.

Share with us the qualities of leadership you admire and how you express those in your life. Qualities of leadership that I admire are when a leader is able to make the group feel comfortable. When your group feels comfortable with each other they are able to voice their opinions and feel like they are valued. That way the group is all on the same page and are able to move forward in the right direction in order to reach the goal.

Who has inspired you to do the work that you are doing? My hula Kumu is the one who has inspired me to do the work that I am doing. She is my original teacher who has taught me most of my leadership skills.
