Share with us a little about yourself and what you do.
I am a native Hawaiian- born in Waimea on Hawai'i Island, raised and currently live on Hawaiian Homes land in Kapolei with my 'ohana. My parents are Kaulana and Lisa Pakele and I have 3 siblings and one nephew. I love playing basketball and my passion is music! I am an aspiring artist here in Hawai'i pursuing my passion in reggae music. I released 2 songs and a music video within the past year and a half and currently finishing my EP that will be released on May 25, 2022.
Why is the work that you do important to you? The community?
I had the privilege to grow up in Hawai'i surrounded by music and incredibly talented musicians. Through my dad I had the opportunity to experience music which helped to shape me into the person I am today. Music has literally taught me so many lessons and helped me overcome many life situations through the highs and the lows. During college I learned the power of putting my emotions down on paper and translate this into songs. There are so many people that have helped me in my musical journey. My desire is to have the ability to share my experiences and what I have learned to support and encourage anyone else on their musical journey.
Share with us the qualities of leadership you admire and how you express those in your life.
1- Aloha- No matter the situation- you can always approach it with aloha. Aloha for what you do and who you do it for. I strive to give aloha through my music.
2- Integrity- Be a person true to who you are. Although I look up to many talented individuals- I aspire to be the best version of Dillon.
3- Accountability- No one is perfect but a leader takes responsibility of the kuleana that needs to get done. I am always working on improving and want to be someone people can count on.
Who has inspired you to do the work that you are doing?
My biggest inspiration is my father Kaulana Pakele. I have watched him give his aloha in everything he did for his 'ohana, friends and even people he didn't know. He was constantly working to get better in music. I watched him my whole life pour his heart and passion into music and share his gift and talent with literally the world! His dedication and work ethic is something I aspire to do and be in my continued journey in music and life one day as a husband and father. My dad's legacy has inspired me to continue his legacy through my love and passion in music.
