Share with us a little about yourself and what you do.

Aloha, my name is Kimo Farias. I’m 33 years old and have a beautiful family of 6. I’m currently a full time front end supervisor at Costco. I am also in the Hawaii Army National Guard and have served 16 years of service. My current goal is to become a fire fighter here on the island of Kauai. I am currently in the process of training and studying for the next upcoming fire exam.

Why is the work that you do important to you? The community?

The work that I do is important to me because I love to help and inspire others through my careers like being in the Hawaii Army National Guard. During the pandemic I assisted the county of Kauai with doing compliance checks and also helped at the Covid-19 testing site at the convention hall in Lihue. I helped register civilians and served as the NCOIC. Giving back to my community in any way I can makes me feel better and also inspires my family and friends to do the same.

Share with us the qualities of leadership you admire and how you express those in your life.

To me leadership means caring for the well being of your teammates/coworkers. It means doing the right thing and setting a good example for others to follow. It means showing by action, and not by words. It’s to inspire other people around you. That’s what leadership means to me. I express this in my life by teaching my children and leading by example at home, work, and in the community.

Who has inspired you to do the work that you are doing?

I have been inspired by my past leaders in the army because they have thought me how to lead by example and to always try your best to teach others the right way of doing things in work and in life.
