Share with us a little about yourself and what you do.

My name is Tiara Gomes, 19, from Waimānalo and I’m a singer-songwriter who loves to create music that helps people find their home. I was born and raised in Oahu, Hawai’i and fell in love with the music that surrounded me. Some activities I enjoy are video editing, production, photography, jam sessions with family and friends, and eating breakfast, especially french toast! Growing up in a musical household, I started singing at a young age and always knew that music was my passion and something I was born to do. I’m self taught in piano, guitar, ukulele, and most recently songwriting! I fell in love with the vulnerability within songwriting. Being able to be transparent in my music makes me feel free, it makes me feel worthy and helped me find purpose which motivated me to write songs that made others feel like that too.

Why is the work that you do important to you? The community?

It is important to me to carry on the music of Hawai’i in my community because I believe it creates a safe space for people to express themselves, build confidence, fulfill their purpose, and share the voices of Hawai’i. I’m devoted to form a healthy work-life and being a positive influence in my community.

Share with us the qualities of leadership you admire and how you express those in your life.

Some qualities of leadership I admire the most is trust, endurance, being open minded, and constantly working for others. I express these qualities in my life by having a strong foundation, always finding ways to improve, and choosing courage over comfort. I spend time constantly searching for new opinions and ideas and purposefully seeking out differing opinions and listening to them with an open mind. I believe having a community that keeps me accountable and letting them have active voices in my business and in my life not only betters myself, but it betters themselves as well. I strive to be a leader that brings out the best in others.

Who has inspired you to do the work that you are doing?

I attribute much of my inspiration and success towards my mentors and most of all my parents. They have always encouraged me and supported me to follow my dreams. My parents value faith, love, hope, perseverance, commitment, integrity, and honesty and it’s them who have helped shape me in who I am and what I do today.
