Share with us a little about yourself and what you do. My name is Jordan Soon i'm 19 years old and i'm a singer-songwriter & entrepreneur from Wailuku, Maui, Hawai’i. I've been singing as far back as I can remember. In January of 2016, I got my first opportunity to take my talent to the main stage & i've been doing it professionally ever since. On November 4, 2020, I released my very first digital single, “Flashlight”. My goal while continue to chase my dream is to release more music so I can bring joy to the people around me and around the world.

Why is the work that you do important to you? The community? I feel what I do is important because I believe Music is a type of medicine especially during these crazy times what got me and others through it was Music. Music has a special way of touching you when you hear it most people lose control of all thoughts and just focus on the rhythm and the words of the song. Music has got me through so much in my life and when I'm singing on stage I feel the people around me feel of sense of comfort and everyone deserves to feel that way and I plan to make it my priority to touch everyone's heart with music.

Share with us the qualities of leadership you admire and how you express those in your life. COLLABORATION

Being able to collaborate and work with others shows what a true leader is. Working in the music business for 5+ years i've learned that collaboration is an important factor in this business and also in life. Kimie Miner a grammy nominated & Na Hoku Hanohano award winner and mentor of mine has always showed me what a true leader is and what stands out from all the leadership qualities she has is her drive to collaborate with many artist including the younger generation like myself & many others. I always push to work with other artist and local businesses I feel we all need to work together to be bigger because my mindset is that you will not get to the top by yourself you have to bring others with you. I love to work with others and feel as a nominated leader collaboration would be my best quality of leadership.

Who has inspired you to do the work that you are doing? Artist like Kimie Miner, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, Kolohe Kai, Josh Tatofi, and many others.Seeing what the artist did with their couriers continues to push me to continue my music courier. Music has always been apart of my life since I was born but I'd never think i could make a courier our of it and i'm blessed to wake up doing what I love and bring joy to the people who listen to my music.

What is one word that describes something you are excited about for the lāhui? Music - Speaking from a musician point of view i'm excited to see the music that will come out of our lāhui. Being able to take more Hawaiians to the Grammys and share our culture with the world is something I am excited to see.

What is one word that describes a pressing issue that is facing our lāhui? Poverty - A lot of Hawaiians are leaving the Hawaiian islands because of a lot of pressing issues in Hawaii including cost of living. Hawaiians if they continue to live in Hawaii it will lead them to poverty and this is very sad and something needs to change.
